The Commanding Officer Land Warfare Centre Canungra, LT. Col. Wendy Say, extended an invitation to the Men’s Shed members to visit the base for a tour, morning tea, and a small presentation. Major Mick Barany organized a bus to pick us up at the shed and take us to the base, where we spent a most enjoyable few hours on the tour. We first went to the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam Memorial Grove, which is very well presented and kept. Then on to the Canungra Vietnam Memorial from 1962 to 1975 where we walked through the site and admired the setting and attention to detail. This brought back a lot of memories for our Vietnam veteran members, some good, but some not. From there we went on to the Warrant/Non- Commissioned Officer training wing, where then photos of all the class years are mounted on the corridor walls, with some much younger faces being recognized. Then on to the Officer’s Mess for Morning Tea and a presentation by Wendy Say to the Men’s Shed of a framed letter of appreciation and a group photo of the LWC visit to the 10th Anniversary celebration of the incorporation of the shed on the 15th March 2022. While some members went on to visit the base museum, Kevin, Wozza, and Andy discussed an upcoming commissioned project to build a 10-meter long bookcase for the Officer’s mess with the mess team Damian and Ed. All too soon our visit was over, and we bundled back into the bus and headed back to the shed, well satisfied with our visit.
